A Little More About The Little Art Hub

Galashiels, Scottish Borders – Little Art Hub, a visionary project initiated by a determined consortium of small arts organisations and individual artists, officially opened its doors on March 21st, 2024.

With a bold dream to cultivate a more ambitious multi-use arts space in the Scottish Borders, Little Art Hub Galashiels aims to serve as a vibrant link for creativity and community engagement. This innovative space  features exhibitions, workshops, talks and events, giving artists a supportive place to connect and create, especially with an eye for utilising recycled and surplus resources of materials and equipment, to foster artistic exploration. Little Art Hub is a space that is open to ideas, and welcomes proposals for art-related events.

Throughout Summer 2024, there will be an expansive programme on offer: from Nerdy Dads (a free weekly comic-making drop-in session for parents & kids) to an exhibition by Gala Camera Club to darning workshops with Flora Collingwood-Norris. Every Heartland market day, there are free drop-in art sessions with Transform Arts.

Galashiels, is poised to become a hub that nurtures both emerging talents and established artists, creating a dynamic environment where creativity thrives. The project has garnered invaluable support from Energise Galashiels Trust (EGT) through the ‘Build a Better Gala’ initiative, as well as multi-year funding from South of Scotland Enterprise and Scottish Borders Council.

“We’re thrilled to see The Little Art Hub open its doors, thanks to the collaborative efforts of local artists, our community partners and the generous support from EGT, South of Scotland Enterprise, and Scottish Borders Council,” said Lara Greene of Little Art Hub. “Our vision is to not only bring new life to Galashiels’ town centre, but also to foster a sense of belonging and inspiration among local residents, artists and visitors alike.”

Little Art Hub Galashiels is proud to be in close collaboration with EGT, whose recent accolade in the ‘Improving Scotland’s Places’ category of the 2023 SURF Awards underscores the collective commitment to revitalising urban spaces through creative initiatives.

Since its inception, Little Art Hub has wasted no time in igniting curiosity and enthusiasm within the community.  Already with five successful exhibitions and a series of engaging drawing workshops under its belt, even a Japanese Tea Ceremony, the Hub has quickly established itself as a beacon of artistic expression and cultural enrichment in Galashiels.  Additionally, it has served as a pivotal base for outdoor and arts activities organized by the local cultural organisation, Connecting Threads.

As Little Art Hub continues to evolve and expand its offerings, it remains steadfast in its mission to catalyze positive change and celebrate the boundless creativity thriving within this area of the Scottish Borders.
