Blooming Beautiful

You may have spotted some colourful new additions to our town recently, thanks to a partnership project between Floral Gala and Gala in Bloom, both sub-groups of Galashiels Community Council

The volunteers involved in the charity initiative, supported by Energise Galashiels Trust, did a fantastic job organising floral displays and flower beds in and around Galashiels, which have brought much happiness and delight to many visitors and locals.

To complement the opening of the Great Tapestry of Scotland visitor centre, and to entice visitors to other parts of the town, a total of 32 floral planters have been installed in the town centre. There have also been twenty-three fence planters, positioned on either side of the fence near Douglas Bridge, and nine large fountain planters can be found between Channel Street and Douglas Bridge.

The planters were supplied and installed by the garden experts at Milestone Garden Centre and a team of volunteers have been watering and maintaining the planters ever since.

The project cost £16,000 in total; £14,000 was granted by Energise Galashiels Trust, and donations were gratefully received from SYKES International and The Focus Centre.

Fundraising for to continue the project in 2022 is already underway, with plans to purchase a bowser to make watering the flowers easier. There is also a need to recruit more volunteers to carry out the work. If you or your business would like to get involved, either as a volunteer or help raise money for the project, please get in touch via email or make a donation.
