Energise Encourages Locals to Explore

As the Scottish Government manages the country’s transition from the ‘Stay at Home’ instruction to a more liberating ‘Stay Local’ message, Energise Galashiels Trust launches a Love Galashiels, Explore Galashiels campaign.

Aimed at encouraging the people of the town, and the Scottish Borders, to spend time in and around Galashiels, the campaign centres around the walking and cycling trails hosted on this website www.galashielsheartland.org.uk

When asked to describe Galashiels and its surrounding countryside, people often refer to a town enveloped in beautiful green countryside with rolling hills and hidden valleys. The diverse terrain provides many options for walkers, runners, and cyclists to explore and discover.

Energise committee member Debbie Paterson said: We are fortunate to live in a beautiful part of the world, but sometimes seeing it every day means we don’t fully appreciate what is on our doorstep. We hope that our latest campaign encourages people from the town and beyond to explore the Galashiels countryside.”

The Charity is also keen to add less well-known trails to the website, showcasing the real hidden gems, and invite people to email hello@galahsielheartland.org.uk if they have any suggestions.

With a significant increase in the number of people taking part in regular walking, running or cycling activity over the last 12 months, the Trust also want to encourage locals to tag them in their Facebook and Instagram posts, when out enjoying the Galashiels countryside by using the hashtags #lovegalashiels and #exploregalashiels – Energise volunteers can share these posts, helping spread the word to as broad an audience as possible.

Debbie continued: “We know the people of Galashiels are proud of their town and the surrounding area.  Social media makes it easy for each of us to post and share incredible photos, showcasing what’s available.”
