Energise Galashiels Trust (EGT) is delighted to announce it has secured £20,000 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to strengthen its role in supporting the regeneration of Galashiels town centre.
The funding will enable EGT to continue funding its manager role on a flexible part-time basis, ensuring vital coordination and communication for both the Galashiels Town Team (GTT) and the recently launched Galashiels Town Network (GTN). These groups bring together volunteers, businesses, community organisations and partners to shape a vibrant future for the town.
The project will also allow EGT to develop a long-term sustainable model for its work, while exploring opportunities to transform empty retail units into community-driven spaces which would provide a home for local enterprise, creative activity and community engagement, breathing new life into the town centre.
Workshops, events and wider engagement will run alongside this, with the involvement of local partners, local business and community groups including the Little Art Hub. These activities will focus on harnessing creativity, boosting footfall and building a stronger sense of community ownership in Galashiels.
Ian Dalgleish, Chair of Energise Galashiels Trust, said:
“This investment is a real boost for Galashiels. It ensures that our volunteers and partners have the coordination they need to keep momentum going, while also giving us the chance to plan for a sustainable future. By developing a business case for new community uses in the town centre, we are laying the foundations for lasting regeneration and collaboration.”
This support means EGT can continue to back local volunteers and partners working to make Galashiels a thriving, welcoming town with benefits for residents, businesses, students and visitors alike.
This project is funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
