Extraordinary Beasties – Community Mosaic (Workshop 2) with Joy Parker – Art’n About in Gala

FREE EVENT: A fantastic opportunity to learn the ancient art of mosaic making with local artist Joy Parker.

Hosted by Transform Arts CIC.

During the first of two workshops, participants will be designing and creating small mosaics that will be displayed around Galashiels in various overlooked, damaged or derelict spaces.

The idea is to brighten these spots with something curious, fun and surprising!  Come along to enjoy yourself, learn a skill and contribute towards improving the town centre.

The ordinary beasties we might overlook or sometimes find annoying, play an important role in biodiversity and the balance of ecosystems in our area and beyond.  They soon become extraordinary if you look closer and find out a little more about them.  We plan to celebrate the little beasts which are all around us. They must be cared for because their existence is intertwined with our own.

We will be using a mix of new and recycled materials for the mosaics. Bring along any old items to possibly include, such as: bone china, porcelain, glass, pebbles, small metal items or jewellery.

The workshop is open to anyone age 16+

Teas and coffees will be available free. There will be a lunch break- you can bring your own lunch or there are shops available nearby to purchase refreshments.

Carers are welcome, only book a place for the accompanying adult only if they are also taking part in the workshop, which is welcomed, otherwise just come along to support.

You are welcome to book one or both of the sessions. All we ask is that people book into a maximum of three of our adults workshops as part of this Art’N About in Gala programme. This is because places are limited and we  hope for as many people as possible to benefit.

Coming up we have drawing, printing, music and film workshops as well.

Please wear oldish clothes just in case it gets a bit messy!

The workshop is part of  Art’N’About in Gala a community arts programme funded by Energise Galashiels Trust, Scottish Borders Council and South of Scotland Enterprise.
