With the Tour de France coming to the Scottish Borders, including Galashiels, in July 2027, getting Gala ready and making the most of this major opportunity is a key focus for us at BID for Galashiels.
We’re working closely with local organisations, businesses and partners as preparations develop, helping to make sure Galashiels is well placed to benefit from the excitement, visitors and wider attention the Tour will bring.
For us, this is about much more than race day. We want to make the most of the build-up, create opportunities for our local businesses, encourage more people into the town and ensure Gala gives visitors a fantastic welcome.
When Yorkshire hosted the opening stages of the Tour de France in 2014, an estimated 2.5 million spectators lined the route, demonstrating the scale of the opportunity an event like this can bring.
There’s plenty of work ahead, and partnership working will be key. We’ll continue to represent and support our town centre businesses as plans progress, keeping you updated on developments and opportunities to get involved along the way.
