As entrants across the UK continue to wait for an update on the Town of Culture competition, the Galashiels working group has continued exploring other major opportunities for the town.
One of the biggest discussions currently underway is around the Tour de France UK Grand Départ arriving in July 2027, and how Galashiels can maximise the opportunities around the international event.
Representatives from the working group recently attended a Tour de France meeting focused on supporting local businesses, increasing footfall and showcasing towns like Galashiels on an international stage.
Many of the conversations first started through the Town of Culture bid are now helping shape wider discussions around the Tour de France, with early ideas involving Galashiels Academy, local schools, BID for Galashiels and community groups all looking at ways to get involved alongside the official Tour de France team.
While the town still waits to hear more on the Town of Culture bid, the group says the process has already helped create valuable partnerships, conversations and future opportunities for Galashiels.
