The Great Tapestry of Scotland
Where the People’s Story of Scotland Begins.
The Great Tapestry of Scotland national gallery and visitor centre in the heart of Galashiels will be where the people’s story of Scotland and creative journeys begin when it opens in summer 2021 (subject to Covid 19 restrictions). Created and handstitched by 1,000 people from across Scotland, The Great Tapestry of Scotland (one of the world’s largest tapestries) tells a compelling account of Scotland’s history and culture through 160 different panels. In addition to the stunning purpose built gallery space showcasing the tapestry itself, the new accessible centre will be home to visiting exhibits, a café, a shop and workshops that will give visitors a chance to Meet the Makers.
