The Lavender Touch is looking ahead to its next chapter as it begins the search for new Trustees and a new Chair.
The well-known Scottish Borders charity, which has supported people undergoing cancer treatment and their carers for more than twenty years, has announced that its founder and current Chair Jan Beattie will be stepping down from the role.
Founded in 2004, The Lavender Touch was created to offer therapeutic treatments for people affected by cancer, providing both practical and emotional support across the region. Over the past two decades it has grown into a trusted organisation with strong roots in the local community.
Jan Beattie has played a central role in shaping the organisation from the beginning – establishing its ethos, supporting therapists and helping build partnerships across the Borders. What began as a response to the simple but important need for safe, compassionate touch during cancer treatment has developed into a sustainable charity helping many people through difficult times.
Although stepping down as Chair, Jan will remain closely involved with the charity and is committed to supporting a smooth transition as new leadership comes forward.
She said: “It has been a privilege to see how this idea has grown over more than twenty years. I feel incredibly proud of what has been built together and grateful to everyone who has supported the charity along the way. I believe this is the right time for new leadership to bring fresh perspective and energy, and I look forward to continuing to support the charity as it moves forward.”
The charity is now inviting people to express interest in becoming Trustees, including the role of Chair of Trustees, as it prepares for the future.
The Lavender Touch is particularly keen to hear from individuals who share its values of compassionate, community-led support. Experience in areas such as health and wellbeing, community work, finance, HR, safeguarding, fundraising or communications would be welcomed – but previous trustee experience is not essential.
