Pavilion Cinema Sponsors Galashiels’ Junior Football Team

Borders cinema is backing the next generation of footballers in Galashiels.

The Pavilion, which is currently celebrating a centenary of showing blockbusters in the town, has sponsored the strips of Gala Fairydean Rovers Academy’s 2011 team.

Cinema director Andrew Poole is thrilled to be supporting the community club.

He said: “We were delighted to sponsor the junior football team. We feel the cinema is a key member of the Galashiels community, and we want to support others within that community too.”

With many of the senior primary school pupils who play in the team being regulars at the Pavilion Cinema, Andrew felt the sponsorship deal was a good fit for his business.

He added: “Many of the players are regulars of the Pavilion – in fact, so are their parents and grandparents too.

“That’s the legacy of a cinema that celebrates 100 years of being part of a town.

“We look forward to seeing the team make the most of their football season festive break with a trip to the cinema.”

As with most sporting clubs, finding sponsorship and backing is proving more difficult during the cost-of-living crisis.

David Sparham, who is head coach of the 2011 team, said: “On behalf of Gala Fairydean Rovers Academy I would like to thank the Pavilion Cinema for its kind sponsorship of the new strips for our 2011 squad.

“During these testing times, it’s amazing to see that no matter how difficult it is for businesses, some can still find their way to help out the children in the local community.

“Without the generosity of businesses and individuals, our club couldn’t provide children with the clothing and the equipment they deserve.”

The sponsorship deal is part of a project supported by Creative Scotland to celebrate the centenary of the cinema in Market Street in Galashiels.
