Shaping the Future of Galashiels: Community Insights and Upcoming Consultations

The Town Team continues making progress, pulling together your views from across the whole town, and reviewing results from previous consultations and plans. It is fair to say that there is a lot of information out there!

We had a total of 470 completed responses to the place standard tool. Most of the feedback related to better street cleanliness, increased & improved street lighting, better road and path maintenance and reusing empty / derelict buildings.
However, we also know that there were a significant number of partially completed surveys which were not fully submitted. We did report that, and other glitches with the tool which was passed back to Scottish Government.

As Energise Galashiels Trust won the SURF award for Most Improved Place last year, Ian was invited to speak about our experience of place planning at a recent SURF (Scotland’s Regeneration Forum).

Later in June, Angela has been invited to speak about placemaking in Galashiels at the Heads of Planning Conference being hosted at Borders College.

We are now getting ready for our public drop-in consultation event. This is being held between 10am and 2pm in the Little Arts Hub, this Saturday 1 June – we would like as many people as possible to drop by, find out what has happened so far and to give us ideas for any projects that they think would make Galashiels a better place to live, visit, work and learn.

The next step is seeking consultancy support to draw it all together into a draft town plan. So still, lots to do and if you would like to get involved please email
