The Future of Design Talent Was on Show in Galashiels

This year’s Heriot-Watt School of Textiles and Design Degree Show has wrapped up after a successful week celebrating the creativity, innovation and talent of the next generation of designers right here in Galashiels.

Held at the High Mill building, the public exhibition welcomed visitors from across the Borders and beyond, with strong community support throughout the week as people came to explore the work of more than 100 graduating students. Collections and exhibitions showcased talent across fashion, textiles, interior design, branding, communication design and fashion technology.

The exhibition highlighted how young designers are responding to real-world issues through creativity and innovation, with projects exploring sustainability, wellbeing, inclusivity and climate resilience. Visitors experienced everything from forward-thinking fashion collections and textile concepts to community-inspired design projects celebrating Scottish identity and culture.

The annual Degree Show continues to shine a spotlight on the important role Galashiels plays in Scotland’s textile and creative industries, while celebrating the exciting future talent emerging from the town’s internationally recognised School of Textiles and Design. The event once again demonstrated how creativity, education and community continue to shape Galashiels as a centre for design and innovation.
