Town Trail

Photograph of Old Gala House

Old Gala House, one of the oldest buildings in Galashiels, is the perfect place to learn more about the story of the town. Now a museum, this impressive building has seen over 400 years of history and bears its fascinating traces. From its painted, wooden-panelled ceiling dating back to 1635 and the ornate 18th-century plaster ceiling in the adjoining room to the beautiful gardens, there is a lot to discover.

The museum, which opens seasonally, provides plenty of information and regular art displays about the house and its occupants, as well as the town and local artists. The peaceful gardens can be visited free of charge all year round.

You can find more information regarding opening times and current exhibitions here.
