The Royal Bank of Scotland owns some beautiful buildings – including their branch in Galashiels. The building, which used a pre-war design for the National Bank of Scotland and was built on the site of an earlier bank building, is the reason why ‘Bank Street’ got its name.
It is the largest building facing onto Bank Street Gardens and is an example of a classical bank style built in high-quality materials. It continues to be used by the Royal Bank of Scotland today. A plaque on the side of the building, in Bank Close, commemorates a visit by Sir Walter Scott to an earlier building at this location.
This building is Category B listed.
